PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct an object imaged in an oval shape into an original shape. SOLUTION: A major axis A and a minor axis B of the oval shape obtained from the object are detected by outline extraction (S201), to determine whether the angle of the minor axis B is -45°<B<+45°(S202). When the decision is "YES", the image is turned so that the major axis A becomes a vertical axis and the minor axis B become a horizontal axis (S203). When it is "NO", the image is turned so that the minor axis B may become the vertical axis, and the major axis A become the horizontal axis (S205). When the image is turned so that the major axis A becomes the vertical axis, and the minor axis B becomes the horizontal axis at S203, the horizontal direction of the image is enlarged by A/B times (S204). When the image is turned so that the minor axis B becomes the vertical axis and the major axis A becomes the horizontal axis at S205, the vertical direction of the image is enlarged by A/B times (S206). Accordingly, A=B is satisfied, by setting the major axis A and the minor axis B of the oval shape to become the same in length, the oval shape is corrected to a perfect circle.
