PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an armature winding method high in productivity and an armature winding apparatus. SOLUTION: The armature winding apparatus 10 is equipped with a supporting machine 11 which supports a work 1, an index machine 70 which shifts each supporting machine 11 between a winding station A and a waiting station B, a work detector 80 which detects the position and form of the work 1 supported by the supporting machine 11, and a winder 30 which applies winding to the work 1. While the winding work is performed in the winding station A, the carrying-in/out process of the work 1 in the waiting station B and the work positioning process are performed in parallel.
