R.F.I.D. ENABLED STORAGE BIN AND METHOD FOR TRACKING INVENTORY

A contents-aware storage bin includes a transportable bin unit (20) adapted for placement within a storage bin rack. A user interface module (21) is mounted to the bin unit (20). The user interface module (21) includes an RFID reader unit, a display (22), and one or more input devices (23). An RFDD antenna (24) is connected to the RFID reader unit and is in contact with the bin unit (20). The RFID unit may display contents information on the display (22) and/or communicate contents information wirelessly to a base station. The user interface module (21) may also be connected to one or more sensors that may be positioned within the bin unit (20). Sensor data may be displayed on the display (22) and/or communicated wirelessly to the base station.
