<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving circuit or a flat display device that can detect such a state that one organic EL element has its anode and cathode shorted from an insulation defect of an organic thin film, and minimize influence of the shorting on others in a flat display using organic EL elements. <P>SOLUTION: The driving circuit comprises a data driver circuit which supplies electric power corresponding to image data to each light emitting element on a scanning line, a controller circuit which controls a scanning driver circuit and a data driver circuit, a current detecting circuit which detects an increase of a current flowing to the scanning driver circuit when one or a plurality of organic EL elements shorts or enters a similar state and make a current different from a normal current flow and outputs a signal proportional to the current, a comparator which compares the signal from the current detecting circuit with a predetermined threshold and outputs a comparison output, and a cutting-off means of cutting off at least the current flowing to the scanning driver circuit. The cutting-off means is driven based upon a signal from the comparator which indicates abnormality to inhibit the current from the current detecting circuit from increasing. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
