PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately measure timing up to a stable arc discharge while reducing a time until the stable arc discharge. SOLUTION: A discharge tube lighting device executes lighting control by supplying power to a discharge tube. A control means (a microcomputer 81 of a control circuit 8) has a first power supply pattern, in which relatively large power is supplied in a negative resistance region of inter-electrode voltage characteristics of the discharge tube to an elapsed time immediately after lighting of the discharge tube; and a second power supply pattern for supplying power corresponding to output power characteristics to an inter-electrode voltage after passing the negative resistance region. The lighting control is executed by supplying power to the discharge tube while switching between the first/second power supply patterns after being triggered by the passing of the negative resistance region.
