<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem with traditional liquid-absorbing ceramic members that the improvement of evaporation ability and the control of evaporation rate as required are impossible. <P>SOLUTION: The ceramic member is composed, as the main ingredient, of a pillar-like or a cylindrical body comprising a porous ceramic consisting of flat crystalline particles. The ceramic member is provided radially or concentrically with oriented area 4 consisting of more than one crystalline particle 3 which is oriented approximately parallel to the axis in the cross section approximately to the axis and oriented in the direction from the center to the circumference in the cross section approximately vertical to the axis.
