PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston ring superior in initial conformability and having a large friction loss reducing effect, its mate material being a sliding member, in particular, a cast iron cylinder liner, superior in initial conformability with a mate material and having a large friction loss reducing effect. SOLUTION: Ten-point average roughness (Rz) of the surface of an amorphous hard carbon film of the sliding member coated with the amorphous hard carbon film on a sliding face is set to 0.7μm or less, and initial abrasion roughness (Rpk) is set to 0.07-0.14μm.
