PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molten salt electrolysis method for economically suppressing reduction in the heat releasing capacity of a heat exchanger used for the temperature control of a molten salt, and to provide an electrolytic cell using the method. SOLUTION: In the heat exchanger 20 dipped into the molten salt 40 within an electrolytic cell, the circulation direction of the air as a heat transfer medium is inverted, e.g., at the period of several days to several hours. Solid matter is stuck to the feed side of the air whose temperature is low to reduce heat releasing capacity, however, by the inversion of the circulation direction, the feed side of the air is made into the exhaust side of the air whose temperature is high, and the solid matter stuck to the feed side of the air is melted away.
