PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To visually ascertain a composition result on the monitor of a printing unit in a photograph printing device where image data and character data transmitted from an image processing unit are sinthesized and printed out at the printing unit. SOLUTION: The photograph printing device is equipped with a pre-view forming means 38 for displaying the character data inputted through the keyboard 5 of the image processing unit on a monitor 3 in a form that reproduces the output form of the printing unit. The pre-view forming means 38 judges a character that can't be outputted by the printing unit on the basis of a font table 39, and displays a symbol indicating that the character can't be printed on the monitor 3 when it is found that the character can't be outputted.
