METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SYNTHESIZING STEREO SIGNAL

A method and an apparatus for generating stereo signals are provided to apply an HRTF(Head Related Transfer Function) to a QMF(Quadrature Mirror Filter) domain in order to generate 3D(Dimensional) stereo signals by using a surround data stream in a decoder, thereby reducing complexity because there is no necessity to perform the converting or reverse-converting of multichannel signals upmixed according to the domain of the HRTF separately. A method for generating stereo signals comprises the following steps of: converting downmixed signals into a QMF(Quadrature Mirror Filter) domain(210); upmixing the converted signals by using spatial information(220); generating stereo signals from a predetermined signal among the upmixed signals by using the spatial information and the HRTF(Head Related Transfer Function) parameter(230); and reverse-converting the stereo signals into a time domain(240).
