摘要 An apparatus and a method for adjusting the clearance between a magnetic head and a data storage medium in real time are provided to solve a problem of a related art that the reliability of a data storage unit is degraded due to the variation of a flying height according to a temperature, humidity, or air pressure. A magnet head(120) is mounted on a flexible suspension arm to read a predetermined pattern recorded in a predetermined area of a data storage medium and generate an analog read signal. A pre-amplifier(130) amplifies the analog signal from the magnetic head(120) and outputs the analog signal. An analog-digital converter converts the analog signal amplified by the pre-amplifier(130) into a digital signal. A discrete Fourier transform discrete-Fourier-transforms the digital signal output from the analog-digital converter and outputs the transformed digital signal. A processor calculates the distance between the magnetic head(120) and the data storage medium based on the transformed signal to generate the first control signal based on the calculation result. The pre-amplifier(130) outputs the second control signal used to adjust the distance between the magnetic head and the data storage unit in response to the first control signal output from the processor.
