A portable machine for honing the sharpened edge of the guillotine knife of a paper guillotine machine has a rigid frame provided at what will be its front end with one or more rotatably mounted honing wheels, and means for mounting a power unit on the frame so as to be drivingly connectible to the honing wheel(s), which is (are) so mounted on the frame that, when the base of the frame is supported by the bed, or equivalent flat surface of or on a guillotine machine, the abrasive face(s) of the wheel(s) will be at the correct angle for honing the sharpened edge of the knife thereof. Two honing wheels 28 are secured on shafts 24 driven through belts by a shaft 18 driven through a belt by an electric motor 14 secured on the frame 10 by a clip 16; alternatively the motor 14 may be secured by a stud 36 passing through a hole in the frame 10 and engaging in a tapped hole in the motor casing. The honing wheels may be 4-inch diameter and driven at 500 r.p.m. Three screw-threaded adjustable feet 46 on the underside of the frame 10 give fine adjustment of the honing angle. For honing the guillotine knife 42 the machine is moved along the bed or equivalent flat surface.
