PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and correctly grind a smooth outer peripheral surface portion w2 of a shaft-shaped work to which repeating pressing force f1 in a specified direction is added during rotation about a shape center O1. SOLUTION: When a rotation grinding wheel 106B is made to abut on an outer peripheral surface of the smooth outer peripheral surface portion w2 to grind the outer peripheral surface, a contact point between the rotation grinding wheel 106b and the outer peripheral surface is made to be a first position p1, and a position which is on the outer peripheral surface and symmetric with respect to the first position p1 when the shape center O1 is used as a symmetric reference line is made to be a second position p2. Pressing force f2 corresponding to the repeating pressing force f1 is added, to a third position p3 on the outer peripheral surface which is separated from the second position p2 by a specified distance (a distance corresponding to an angleθ1) generally related to an adding period of the repeating pressing force f1 in a circumferential direction of the outer peripheral surface.
