AIR CONDITIONER AND DRIVING METHOD THEREOF

An air conditioner is provided to reduce power consumption during operation by varying capacity according to variation of indoor temperature and seasons, and to reduce manufacturing costs by using a low cost steady speed motor so as to vary the capacity. An air conditioner comprises a first compression unit(C1) and a second compression unit(C2), an outdoor heat exchanger(200), an indoor heat exchanger(100) and a refrigerant guide unit. The first compression unit and the second compression unit respectively compress refrigerant. The outdoor heat exchanger is equipped in the outdoor unit, and connected to the first and second compression units. The indoor heat exchanger is equipped in the indoor unit, and connected to the first and second compression units and the outdoor heat exchanger. The refrigerant guide unit controls refrigerant flow so that the refrigerant is compressed and discharged in the first and second compression units, respectively.
