<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that can decrease bluish coloring occurring when black display is carried out, and to provide a method for manufacturing the liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display element 100 having a liquid crystal layer 4 containing liquid crystal molecules oriented so as to assume a bend alignment when an image is displayed, and at least one retardation plate for compensating for retardation of the liquid crystal layer, wherein display is carried out by varying the retardation of the liquid crystal layer 4 in accordance with externally input video signals to vary the transmittance of the liquid crystal display element 100 to light for display. The retardation plate comprises biaxial retardation plates 71a, 71b, wherein the biaxial retardation plates have refractive indices of 1.45 to 1.50 in all three axial directions. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
