PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of an organic EL element having a negative electrode layer opposed to a transparent conductive layer and an organic EL layer interposed between both electrodes, in which when the organic EL layer is formed by a wet process method, there occurs no deterioration of the characteristics of the organic EL element accompanying removal of solvent and a high performance organic EL element is manufactured. SOLUTION: The organic EL element is manufactured by a process in which the organic EL layer is constituted of one or a plurality of functional layers including an organic luminous layer and at least one layer of functional layer is arranged at the upper part of a first electrode under atmospheric pressure by a wet process using a functional ink, a process in which the functional layer formed under atmospheric pressure is placed in a reduced pressure environment of 10 Pa using 10 minutes or more, a process in which the atmospheric pressure of 10 Pa or less is maintained after the reduced pressure environment reaches 10 Pa until the weight change of the functional layer per one hour becomes less than 0.1%, and a process in which after reaching less than 0.1%, the functional layer is heated at (T<SB>bn</SB>+100)-(T<SB>bn</SB>+200)°C with the boiling point of solvent in the functional layer in this atmospheric pressure P<SB>n</SB>being T<SB>bn</SB>.
