PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element and a lens array that facilitate manufacture and permit micro-fabrication and suppressing deviation of an optical axis, due to processing accuracy and eccentricity of a liquid droplet during voltage drive. SOLUTION: In the lens array 40, a plurality of pyramid-like recessed parts 48 accommodating the liquid droplets 52 are two-dimensionally formed inside the sealed cell 50, in which conductive first liquid 51 and insulating second liquid (liquid droplets) 52 are charged without mixing. According to the recessed part 48 formed like the pyramid, centering properties of the liquid droplet 52 accommodated in the recessed part are enhanced, and the deviation in the optical axis of the lens element formed by an interface 53 of the liquid droplet 52 is suppressed. In addition, the eccentricity of the liquid droplet 52 during the voltage driving can be prevented by stably holding the optical axis. Microfabrication is facilitated, when compared with the case in which the recessed part 48 is conical, and the recessed parts can be arranged densely. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
