<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make contour enhancement and prefilter processing of image encoding balanced. <P>SOLUTION: A contour enhancement controller (24) enhances a contour by a luminance signal processor (24) and supplies contour enhancement information to a system controller (60). The system controller (60) controls the lowpass filter characteristic of a prefilter (32) of an image encoder (30) and the quantization characteristic of a quantizer (40) according to the contour enhancement information. As a high frequency component added in the contour enhancement becomes larger, the cut-off frequency of the lowpass filter characteristic of the prefilter (32) is made lower and a quantization characteristic to the high frequency component of the quantizer (40) is made finer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
