PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens system whose variable power ratio is large, which has high resolution, and which has a blur correcting function, a lens barrel which is short in entire length and low in entire height when it is housed, an imaging apparatus and a thin and compact camera. SOLUTION: The zoom lens system which forms an object image continuously to vary power by changing space between two or more lens groups out of a plurality of lens groups, and where any one of the lens groups, any one of lens elements or a plurality of adjacent lens elements in one lens group are moved in a perpendicular direction to an optical axis is equipped with a first lens group having positive power, a second lens group including the lens element having a reflection surface and having negative power, a third lens group having positive power, a fourth lens group having positive power, and a fifth lens group having positive power in order from the object side, and satisfies a condition: 2.0<-(1-m<SB>2T</SB>)×m<SB>3T</SB>×m<SB>4T</SB>×m<SB>5T</SB><2.7 (m<SB>2T</SB>: magnification of the second lens group, m<SB>3T</SB>: magnification of the third lens group, m<SB>4T</SB>: magnification of the fourth lens group, m<SB>5T</SB>: magnification of the fifth lens group at a telephoto end on a condition that a photographing distance is∞).
