PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester fiber for sheet belts that exhibits good hues and good heat resistance and is suppressed in fluffiness caused by foreign matter at a spinneret or in a stretching step. SOLUTION: The polyester composition for a fiber is manufactured using a titanium complex compound as a main catalyst, the chelating agent for the titanium complex compound being a hydroxy polyhydric carboxylic acid and/or a nitrogen-containing polyhydric carboxylic acid, contains at least one metallic compound selected from the group consisting of alkali metal compounds and alkaline earth metal compounds where the total content (M) (ppm) of the metal atoms in the metal compounds satisfies the expression: 10≤M≤100 (expression 1), and has an intrinsic viscosity of at least 0.8.
