PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve automatic braking control in a truck or a bus. SOLUTION: When TTC derived based upon the relative distance and the relative speed of an object and an own vehicle is under a preset value, automatically stepped braking control for gradually increasing braking force or braking deceleration in two or more stages is time-series conducted. Further, a driver can select a braking pattern different in speed of deceleration according to the classification or weight of a passenger or cargo. Further, the state of driver's mind is grasped according to a preset distance of an inter-vehicle distance warning made by the driver to thereby select the optimum braking pattern.
