PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tetraphenylene derivative having excellent antioxidizing properties and forming a semiconductor active phase by a coating method, to provide an antioxidizing organic semiconductor material and an organic thin film using the tetraphenylene derivative and to provide a method for producing the tetraphenylene derivative. SOLUTION: The tetraphenylene derivative represented by general formula (1) is obtained as follows. A dihalobiphenyl derivative is dilithiated and/or converted into a di-Grignard compound. The resultant compound is then reacted with at least one kind of transition metal compound selected from a copper compound, an iron compound, a manganese compound or a molybdenum compound.
