摘要 This invention defines tools and methods for the analysis, interpretation and modification of games, and for the development, design and construction of new games. Each of the tools and methods involve the generation of a schematic representing a unit of gameplay (or ludeme) using notional representations of the structural elements of the game including the topology of selected points of interest in the game; the rhythm of the unit of gameplay: the number of actions available to a participant in the gameplay unit and the probability that an objective result will be achieved by the participant. The topology 10 of the unit of gameplay is related to the arrangement and connectivity of points of interest in a game, which can be represented by nodes. Game rhythm 11 is related to the time-step or frequency of play and takes in to account whether players participate at the same time (as in an online first-person shooter) or take turns to play (as in most board games such as chess). Actions 12a, 12b relate to decisions that a player makes that affect the outcome of the game by changing the probability of success or the route through the topology. The probability 13a, 13b is the characteristic of skill or chance that determines whether or not an outcome will be achieved.
