A friction drive unit is provided to quietly move a table on a rail without vibration and noise and determine a position of high precision without a backlash by transmitting rotation force to a guide rail. A friction drive unit includes a U-shaped arm(2), a pair of drive rollers(3a,3b), a drive source(5), and a pair of reversal rollers(4a,4b). The arm in a shape of U is fixed on a table(90) with a fixing bolt and forms a housing having two arm units(20a,20b). The pair of drive rollers are supported by the arm units of the U-shaped arm to insert a guide rail(93) at right and left sides with predetermined pressuring force. The drive source is attached to one of the arm unit and is connected to a roller axis of one of the drive roller as a servo motor. The pair of reversal rollers are attached to the roller axes(30a,30b) of each drive roller to transmit the rotation of the drive source to the other of the drive roller.
