A projection optical system and an image projection device adopting the same are provided to decrease aberration of a part for offset-projecting an image display region by deviating a second optical system disposed at a display element, thereby projecting an image of high quality. A projection optical system(1) is composed of a display element(3) for displaying an image on an image display region(3a) and first and second optical systems(4A,4B) arranged along an optical path formed from a screen(6) to the display element in order. If an optical axis(4a) of the first optical system is set as a reference axis, the image display region of the display element is eccentrically disposed in parallel to the reference axis. The second optical system is disposed eccentrically from the reference axis to magnify and project the image displayed on the image display region, at the position eccentric for the reference axis.
