PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent losing of data by finding the fault of a disk drive at an early stage. SOLUTION: A storage system 10 is provided with the one or more disk drives 150 for storing data; a disk control part 140 which controls data access to the disk drives 150; a power source control part 141 which autonomously controls the power sources of the disk drives 150 to be off according to a data access situation to the disk drives 150 and which autonomously controls the power sources of the disk drives 150, which are controlled to be off, to be on after a prescribed period passes without regard to the data access situation to the disk drives 150; and a medium inspection part 12 which inspects the fault of the disk drives 150 which is controlled to be power on autonomously without regard to the data access situation to the disk drives 150.
