PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external wall material for vertical laying easily fixable to furring strips from the indoor side, sequentially addable in lateral and vertical directions, and having excellent flashing of each engaged or overlapped part. SOLUTION: The external wall material is formed of one metal plate comprising crest parts 1 and trough parts 2 of predetermined width alternately formed parallel with a longitudinal direction; an insertion piece 3 bent onto the back face side in parallel with a ridge 1a of the crest part 1 from the end of the crest part 1 of one side part, and formed with a folded part 3a by folding the tip onto the surface side; a locking piece 4 comprising a receiving part 4a extended from the trough part 2 of the other side part, and a uneven part 4b with its end brought close to the surface of the receiving part 4a; and an overlap part 5 cut out at a portion of the folded part 3a of the insertion piece 3 and at a portion from the top part to the terminal end of the uneven part 4b of the locking piece 4 so that a lower part of an external wall material for vertical laying which adjoins above, overlaps the surface side.
