摘要 1,138,344. Testing with magnetic tapes. AGFA-GEVAERT A.G. 8 Dec., 1965 [8 Dec., 1964], No. 52120/65. Heading G5R. In magnetographic fault testing the scatter field at a flaw is printed on to a magnetic tape. The magnetic layer is arranged to have a coercive force substantially equal to the field strength in the saturation break of the hysteresis loop of the specimen by subjecting the tape to an dealizing field during testing. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, a yoke 1 carries two windings. Coil 2 carries D.C. to produce the scatter field at the fault in the specimen 5, while coil 3 carries A.C. adjusted to idealize the field in the tape 4. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) an assembly of oppositely-poled permanent magnets of decreasing pole-strength is moved across the test region to provide the alternating normalizing field. The direct field may also be achieved with permanent magnets. In a third embodiment (not illustrated) a tape, preferably of CrO 2 is heated, together with the specimen or on its own and applied to the specimen, a scatter field applied and the tape allowed to cool through its Curie transition point. The printed tape is spliced into a loop, played back on an audio tape recorder and the faults assessed orally by the loud-speaker, or by an output meter (not detailed).
