<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of photographing a quickly moving child without fail. <P>SOLUTION: A through image is read into a face detection processing circuit 76, and the face of an object is detected. An AF region is set to a face region, and AF processing is carried out. The face is detected again by the face detection processing circuit 76 while half pressing a shutter button 19, and it is confirmed whether the face region is focused. An object distance detection circuit 77 determines an object distance from a zoom position and a focus position by referring to a lookup table. The face size of the object is determined from the object distance and the longitudinal length of the face. If the face size is smaller than a predetermined threshold value, it is judged that the object is a child, a child shooting program drawing is read from a flash memory 75, and a luminance threshold for stroboscope light emission is set for child shooting. Furthermore, a camera shake critical speed is shifted for one stage to a high speed side.
