PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and detector for detecting a position of a light emission source, which detects the position of the light emission source in an area as a unit, by only a simple control circuit of fewer components, without using a range finder comprising a complicated optical system detection means or a computing circuit. SOLUTION: The method and detector is provided with two photoreception elements, the two photoreception elements are arranged with a space to overlap at least one-part of photoreception ranges in order to include at least one or more of areas not recognized by the both two photoreception elements, the plurality of areas are formed in response to a recognition condition of the photoreception elements, and the position of the light emission source is detected using the area as the unit.
