<p>The coder provides segmental coding of the image signal using a controlled quantiser (IC) and a buffer memory(6) for temporary storage of quantised and VLC coder data of the input signal. The coder is set-up by coding the signal segments with different settings for the coder, the bit volume of the VLC coding of the signal segments determined for each trail run and the actual setting selected which provides the bit volume with the closest approximation to the required bit volume.</p> |
