PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alloy steel superior in erosion resistance, particularly an alloy steel which is suitable for a die for an Al die-cast, peripheral parts thereof and a casting tool, and is superior in erosion resistance. SOLUTION: The alloy steel comprises, by mass%, 0.30 to 1.60% C, 0.01 to 1.40% Si, 0.05 to 1.50% Mn, 1.0 to 15.0% Cr, 0.20 to 8.85% Mo+1/2W, 0.01 to 2.50% V, 0.001 to 2.50% Co, 0.01 to 0.05% N, 0.02% or less O, 0.080% or less Al, and the balance substantially Fe with unavoidable impurities; and includes 5.5% to 30% carbides by area rate, due to the steps of quenching the alloy steel at 950 to 1,250°C and tempering it at 500 to 700°C.
