PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blast resistant and blast directing container which receives explosive articles, and prevents and minimizes damage thereof in the event of an explosion, and to provide a door and an encircling body. SOLUTION: The container comprises at least three nested bands formed of materials, wherein the bands are oriented relative to one other to enclose a predetermined volume and to form a container wall having a thickness equivalent to the sum of thicknesses of at least two of the bands. The container has utility as a cargo holder, particularly in an aircraft where weight is an important consideration, and as a transporting means for hazardous materials such as gunpowder and explosives, e.g. bombs and grenades.
