<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic image forming apparatus provided with peeling claws for taking off a carrying sheet adsorbed to a photoreceptor and capable of performing rotation and exchange at suitable timing before generating the deformation or damage of the peeling claws, and to provide a maintenance method for the image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: Collision history values of respective peeling claws are stored/managed on the basis of a collision detection signal from a collision sensor attached to each peeling claw, and when a peeling claw arriving at a rotation request value previously set in the collision history values of respective peeling claws, the rotation request of the peeling claw is notified and the collision history value of the peeling claw executing rotation is rewritten.
