PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite resin sheet having excellent transparency equal to glass, low linear expansion coefficient and hygroscopicity, and birefringence regulated so as to be very low; and to provide a substrate for an image displaying device, comprising the composite resin sheet. SOLUTION: The composite resin sheet comprises a transparent resin and an inorganic fine particles dispersed in the transparent resin and having birefringence. The inorganic fine particle reduces the orientation birefringence caused when a bonding chain of the transparent resin is oriented by external force, by the birefringence possessed by the inorganic particle. A silica layer is formed on the surface of the inorganic fine particle, and the surface is subjected to hydrophobization treatment. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
