摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a continuously uniform optical characteristic by impregnating a monomer yielding a polymer having the refractive index different from the refractive index of an imperfectly polymerized base material having self-holdability into said base material, moving relatively said base material along the impregnated body and diffusing internally the monomer. CONSTITUTION:A monomer Ma which forms a network polymer Pa having a refractive index Na is imperfectly polymerized to form an org. base material having self-holdability. Said base material is relatively moved along the impregnated body 9 impregnated with a monomer Mb yielding a polymer Pb having the refractive index Nb different from the refractive index of said material to diffuse Mb from the surface to the inside of the base material and to polymerize the base material by which a plastic optical transmission body having a refective index distribution is obtd. The optical transmission body 23 having such a refractive index distribution in which the refractive index increases or decreases roughly in proportion to the square of the distance from the central axis of the base material is thus obtd. The formation of a transparent gel base material 8 as well as the diffusion and heat treatment of the monomer Mb are continuously accomplished by which the optical transmission body having specified quality along the longitudinal direction is continuously and efficiently obtd.
