PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly accurately perform focus adjustment, to contribute to the rapid improvement of photographing quality, and also, to attain quick and smooth switching shift (cooperation) from an auto mode to a manual mode. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus 1 capable of selecting the auto mode and the manual mode includes: a distance detecting means 2 for detecting a distance (first object distance) D1 up to an object in the auto mode; a ring position detecting means 3 for detecting the rotating position of a focus ring 4 that is operated in the manual mode; a converting means 5 for converting the detection result by the ring position detecting means 3 to a distance (second object distance) D2 up to the object; and a display means 6 for displaying the first object distance D1 or the second object distance D2 on one and the same display part 7.
