[Also in Division B8] Apparatus for bonding two panels 19, 23 of a paperboard box B 1 by means of a thermoplastic coating on both surfaces to be bonded, the panels being disposed to form an inverted V, comprises transport means 16, Fig. 7 (not shown), for advancing the box to a position in which a hot air discharge head 25 is straddled by the V of the panels, and folding means 31, Fig. 5 (not shown), at a point beyond said head for folding the heated panels into contact. The machine described has air discharge heads and folding means &c. on each side. The panels 19, 20 are urged towards the respective head 25, 26 by contoured plates 28. The hot air applicator is pivotally mounted so that failure of the transport means or hot air generator causes the discharge head to pivot out of the gap between the flaps. |
