A method and an apparatus for transmitting vehicle information in a mobile terminal are provided to prevent a crime in a vehicle by reading vehicle information from a barcode and transmitting the read vehicle information to a designated phone number when a passenger gets on a vehicle. When a passenger having a mobile terminal with a barcode reader gets on a vehicle(210), the client reads a two-dimensional barcode provided in the vehicle through the mobile terminal(220). The vehicle information is interpreted in the terminal(230). The interpreted vehicle information is outputted to a screen of the mobile terminal(240). The vehicle information outputted on the screen is converted into a text message(250) and transmitted to a designated phone number.
