Energy-saving process comprises heating a sufficiently large and well-insulated main water tank (2) as a long-term storage device under a building (1) using alternative cost-free energy sources such as solar energy, feeding in a controlled manner through valves (8) the heat stored in the tank by free convection to well-insulated water tanks (5) arranged preferably in the floors or ceilings (12) of the building, and slowly releasing the heat stored in the water tanks into the rooms of the building.
