PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely seal the inside of an electrooptical device, such as a liquid crystal device, from the outside of the device. SOLUTION: A protective member 300 is extended along a sealing region so as to surround an image display region 10a in plane view. The protective member 300 is provided in the spacing between a TFT array substrate 10 on an outer side of a counter substrate 20 and a protective substrate 200 in a region where the TFT array substrate 10 and the protective substrate 200 are superposed on each other in plane view and is so provided as to surround the image display region 10a along each side of the TFT array substrate 10. According to the protective member 300, the intrusion of a foreign matter, such as moisture, into the image display region 10a sealed by the sealing material 52 can be effectively reduced and the liquid crystal device body can be sealed over the entire part of the circumference of the liquid crystal device 1 including the counter substrate 20 and the TFT array substrate 10.
