A method and a device for controlling a printing option are provided to enable a user to correctly select the desired printing option applied to an image of document data by allowing the user to select various printing options and outputting a sample image corresponding to each printing option in one page. A driver(102) sets the printing options for the images of a document made by an application program(101), and sequentially transfers the images to an image forming device(200) by reducing the images corresponding to each set printing option or selecting the partial images. An image converter converts the images transferred to the image forming device into bitmap images. A storing part(203) stores the converted bitmap images. A printing part(204) performs printing by arranging the bitmap images stored in the storing part in one page. The image converter includes an emulator(202) converting the images into the bitmap images through emulation rendering.
