Paints containing pigments and alkali silicate binders contain a hardener comprising one or more calcined phosphate. Molar ratios of P2O5 to metal oxide and calcination temps. are (a) P2O5/Fe2O3=1:1 TO 3:1, 550-900 degrees C, pref. 550-600 degrees c. (b) P2O5/PbO = 0.33:1 to 1:1,450-850 degrees C; pref. 450-500 degrees C; (c) P2O5/ZnO=0.33-1 to 1:1, 400-850 degrees C, pref. 450-600 degrees C; (d) P2O5/ZnO=0.5:1 to 1:1, 400-850 degrees C, pref. 450-550 degrees C; (e) P2O5/Gg=0.33:1 to 1:1, 230-300 degrees C, pref. 230-280 degrees C; (f) P2O5/Al2O3 = approx 1:1, 600-900 degrees C: (g) P2O5/Al2O3=1.1:1 to 3:1, at first temp of 400 max. and second temp. 770 degrees C max. In (e) calcination is carried at for 0.5-3 hrs, in all other cases calcination is to constant wt. |
