PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polycondensed resin for an electrophotographic toner excellent in low temperature fixing and being reduced in the odor during fixing, an alkylsuccinic acid and an alkenylsuccinic acid used as the raw materials for the resin and an electrophotographic toner containing the polycondensed resin. SOLUTION: The alkylsuccinic acid or an alkenylsuccinic acid for the raw material of the polycondensed resin for an electrophotographic toner is an 8-15C alkylsuccinic acid or an 8-15C alkenylsuccinic acid. In solid phase micro extraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, the ratio (KS/AS) of the sum (KS) of the peak areas attributable to ketone compounds to the sum (AS) of the peak areas attributable to aldehyde compounds is 1-100. The polycondensed resin for electrophotographic toners is obtained by polycodensing a carboxylic acid component containing the alkylsuccinic acid and/or the alkenylsuccinic acid and an alcoholic component.
