A life parameter generator generates a life parameter regarding the life of a nonvolatile storage by using parameters regarding the tolerable capacity and occurrence capacity of memory failure. The life parameter is held in a life parameter holding block of a nonvolatile memory. An accessing apparatus reads and displays the held life parameter. Thus, the user can precisely know the life of a nonvolatile storage or the moment when an apparatus having a built in nonvolatile memory such as a portable audio becomes unusable.
