[Also in Division E2] A steerable driving wheel axle assembly comprises a suspension yoke 14 with two arms 22, 24 each disposed above a corresponding arm 82, 80 of a two-armed wheel yoke 81 and two kingpins each of which extends downwardly from an upper arm 22, 24 and is received within and supported on a precompressed resilient deformable bearing seat member 108, 144 disposed in a lower arms 82, 80, each of the wheel yoke arms 82, 80 receiving substantially half the vertical loading. An externally threaded sleeve 126 abutting a shoulder 130 of the upper kingpin is rotatable in the upper yoke arm 22 to equalize the loading on the kingpins. Each resilient bearing seat member 108, 144 is precompressed between a kingpin and a slightly conical recess of the housing 100, 136 in which it is held by a metal ring 154 and an inturned lip 150 of the housing. |
