An apparatus and a method for initializing an authentication service of a mobile communication terminal are provided to release a service restriction state by automatically initializing the authentication service for the terminal. An apparatus for initializing an authentication service of a mobile communication terminal includes a control unit(42), a memory(43), an authentication state managing unit(44), and a product information transmitting unit(45). The control unit(42) sets a service restriction state when being informed of an authentication failure by an authentication center, stores the information of authentication failure in a memory, and performs service authentication initialization by interlocking with a mobile communication network. The memory(43) stores an algorithm for performing authentication, information for performing the authentication, information of the authentication failure, and information of products. The authentication state managing unit(44) transmits the information of authentication failure stored in the memory(43) to the mobile communication network under the control of the control unit(42). The product information transmitting unit(45) transmits the information of products stored in the memory(43) to the mobile communication network under the control of the controlling unit(42).
