The sharpener (13) comprises an economically-made holder in the form of a multi-faced polyhedron. At one end (14) a sharpening medium (9), especially a ceramic or other hard substance, is located. This is optionally magnetic. The body overall, represents a convex polygon formed precisely in accordance with the mathematical definition of a eulerian polyhedral set. The polyhedron is made in any of a wide range of common thermoplastics. An independent claim is included for the corresponding blade sharpener.
