PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data management system and method for automatically detecting data that are the same as or similar to input data among recorded data. SOLUTION: The data management system 10 has a data identification information generating part 1 for generating data identification information for identifying contents of data input to a video recording device 100, a management information generating part 2 for generating data management information being a set of address information showing a record position on a recording medium 104 and the data identification information of the data when the input data are recorded in the video recording device 100, a management information storing part 3 for sequentially storing generated data management information, and a data identification information analyzing part 4 for analyzing whether newly generated data identification information coincides with or is similar to the data identification information in the data management information stored in the management information storing part 3 and outputting its analytical results.
