A plane display device contemplates to attain a satisfactory display stably, even in case the period of a voltage polarity is switched at the head of a frame when a signal line is driven while applying a periodicity of every M rows to the voltage polarity of the signal line in each frame. Prior to the drive of the signal line for a first row (Y(1)) of the scanning line at the head of the frame, a control circuit (22) makes a control to apply the voltage polarity of the last row in the period of every four rows of scanning lines, to the signal line.
